Just one day after Jessica Simpson unveiled her post-baby body on Katie Couric’s new talk show, Dr. DeRosa sat down with the moms of “Good Morning! Arizona”- Kaley O’Kelley (one baby), Gina Maravilla (two kids), and April Warnecke (one with No. 2 on the way) to talk about losing baby weight.
Gina, Kaley, and April even shared their post-baby photos to illustrate their own struggles with the issue that faces every new mom.
Gina and Kaley said they were nervous about showing their pictures on the air. Gina said she gained 50 pounds while she was pregnant; Kaley gained 70. Bother worked out very intensely to shed those pounds.
“Two months [after giving birth], I still had on a good extra 30 pounds that I just couldn’t get off,” Gina recalled.
It’s not a unique and many new moms are extremely hard on themselves, and often frustrated by how easy the stars can make it look. There’s the inevitable thought, “If they can do it, why can’t I?”
DeRosa offered several tips, explaining that it’s very important for new mothers to take care of themselves- both physically and emotionally.
Be patient
Remember celebrities are not always healthy
Don’t “diet;” just eat more healthfully
Consider breastfeeding; you’ll burn 300-500 calories a day
Maintain stable blood sugar
DeRosa also pointed out that most celebrities have far more help- including trainers and chefs- and time than the average new mom.
“Oftentimes, they’re under really strict protocols to lose that weight because they are under the microscope,” DeRosa said, talking about how Simpson was publicly berated for her weight gain even though it’s a normal part of pregnancy.
